Inspiration, Heat and a
I’ve always been fascinated with the quality of glass. It is fragile yet enduring, sharp yet fluid. My work in fused glass is a constant exploration of how heat transforms rigid shapes into soft, organic forms.
My work is a collaboration between intentional design and the unpredictable physics of the kiln. By layering hand-cut sheets, powders and frits, I add depth to each piece that invites the viewer to look into the piece rather than just at it. For me, the ‘firing’ is a moment of magic, where sharp edges soften and separate elements fuse into a single, permanent narrative of light and color.

Meet the Artist
For Cheryl Viaille, the art of glass began at the edge of the world. After saying “I do” overlooking the vast expanse of the Grand Canyon, a visit to the red rocks of Sedona sparked a secondary love affair, this time with the mysticism of kiln-fired glass.
Cheryl Viaille focuses on “imitating the inimitable” – mimicking the complex patterns, textures and palettes found in nature. Her process involves meticulous layering and heat manipulation to achieve depth and translucency. By balancing technical precision with the unpredictable nature of the kiln, she produces evocative pieces that mirror the organic symmetry of the world around us.
